Interactive effects of genetic variants and oral contraceptive use on depression in the UK Biobank
Using data from 202,243 participants followed to age 23.29 years, researchers employed Cox models to detect SNPs and genes that moderate the effect of oral contraceptive use on depression. The study focuses on adolescent and young adult OC use, a period when depression risk may be elevated. Findings could help personalize contraceptive counseling and depression screening. Further results are expected to clarify biological pathways linking hormonal contraceptives to mood disorders.
